Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and the operator of Covelorn ("Covelorn", "we", "us"), an individual acting as sole operator of the service. By creating an account or otherwise using Covelorn (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

You must read these Terms alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect and use your data.

Covelorn is a tool for making comics, manga, and webtoons. You can write scripts, design characters and places, and lay out pages yourself, use AI to generate and edit images and text, or describe an idea and have an AI collaborator draft pages with you. You can also publish finished stories for others to read.

You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age of digital consent in your jurisdiction if higher, to use the Service. If you're under 18, you need permission from a parent or guardian. By using the Service, you represent that you meet these requirements.

You may create an account with an email and password, or by signing in with Google. You are responsible for keeping your account secure and for all activity that occurs under it. Notify us promptly if you become aware of any unauthorized access.

Free trial credits are meant for one trial per person. Do not create multiple accounts to collect them.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, as described in Section 12.

AI features use credits. New accounts may receive free trial credits, which expire on the date shown in your billing settings. Paid plans are billed monthly and add a credit allowance at the start of each billing period. Unused plan credits carry over to later periods and expire 3 months after they were added. Credits have no cash value and can't be transferred.

By subscribing, you authorize us (and our payment processor, Stripe) to charge your chosen payment method on each renewal date until you cancel. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled before the renewal date. You can cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you keep access to paid features until then. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable.

We may change pricing or the credit cost of features with advance notice. Continued use of a paid feature after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the new price.

You keep ownership of what you put into the Service, such as your stories, scripts, characters, and uploaded images. To the extent we have any rights in the images and text the Service generates for you, we assign them to you.

You grant us a limited license to store, process, and display your content as needed to operate the Service, including sending it to the AI providers described in our Privacy Policy to generate results. If you publish a story, you also allow us to display it publicly on the Service until you unpublish it or delete it.

You are responsible for your content and must have the rights to anything you upload, including images of real people.

Text and images are produced by third-party AI models. Results can be inaccurate, inconsistent, or unexpected, and may resemble content generated for other people; we can't guarantee they are unique or free of third-party rights. Review what is generated before you publish or use it commercially. Credits spent on a generation are not returned because you're unhappy with the result, but we may return credits when a generation fails on our side.

You agree not to use the Service to create, upload, or share:

• Sexual content involving minors, or content that sexualizes anyone who appears to be a minor.
• Sexual or intimate imagery of real people, or content that depicts real people in a deceptive, defamatory, or harmful way.
• Content that is unlawful, harassing, hateful, or promotes violence against people.
• Content that infringes someone else's rights.

You also agree not to:

• Attempt to get around credit limits or the safety filters of the AI providers.
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to another user's account or content.
• Interfere with, overload, or disrupt the Service or its underlying infrastructure.
• Scrape, reverse engineer, or resell access to the Service without our written permission.

Requests may also be refused by an AI provider under its own usage policies.

Anyone with the link can read a story you publish. Published stories may be reviewed before they appear in the public story listing. We may decline, hide, or remove any published story at our discretion, including stories that break these Terms.

The Service relies on third-party providers, including AI model providers, payment processing, and storage. We don't control them and can't guarantee their availability. Features that depend on them may change, become more expensive, or stop working if a provider changes its service.

The Service's software, design, and branding are owned by us and may not be copied, modified, or redistributed without permission. This does not cover your content, which remains yours as described in Section 6.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time if you violate these Terms. You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from your profile settings. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 7, 13, 14, and 15) will continue to apply.

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that your content will never be lost. Keep your own copies of anything important.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us, if any, in the twelve months before the claim arose.

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms.

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you through the Service. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable to the Operator, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. This does not take away any protection you have under the mandatory consumer laws of the country you live in.
